AI search for shop owners · Lesson 1 of 6 · 3 min
Shoppers are starting to ask AI what to buy
AI assistants send a small but fast-growing share of shoppers, and those shoppers buy more often. The shops AI can read are the ones it can recommend.
What's changing
More people now ask ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google's AI "what's the best…" instead of scrolling through search results. The assistant reads shops on the web and names a few.
It is still a small share of visits: AI chatbots sent about 0.25% of web referrals worldwide in August 2026. But it is growing fast, and Adobe's retail data shows visitors who arrive from AI assistants convert better than other visitors.
Why it matters for a small shop
An AI assistant can only recommend a shop it can reach and read. If your shop blocks it, looks empty to it, or hides prices from it, you're simply not in the answer, and nobody tells you.
Most small businesses haven't looked at this yet: surveys in 2026 put the share with no AI-search plan at around 87-88%. That's an opening for the shops that do.
Do this
- Run the free check on your shop. It takes about 20 seconds and tells you whether AI assistants can reach and read it.
